Released Time Bible Education

Bible Classes for Public High School Students

Released Time Bible Education takes place when students are released during their school day to study the Bible off campus. The United States Supreme Court sanctioned Released-Time Religious Education in 1952 (Zorach v Clauson).

Although RTBE has been happening all across the United States since 1952, Campbell County is the first community in Tennessee to offer a RTBE program to high school students. Our classroom doors opened in August 2018 to serve Campbell County High School students, and they now receive elective credit for their successful completion of our coursework!

In the near future, our program will be expanding to make classes available to Jellico High School students as well. We look forward to many years ahead, offering biblical instruction to students who desire a deeper understanding of God's Word!
Our Mission
The Campbell County Christian Learning Center exists to provide biblical instruction to students as an opportunity to encourage them to embrace the Gospel of Jesus Christ, grow in the Christian faith, and apply biblical principles for living.
Our Values
Biblical Literacy
Through the model of Released Time Bible Education, we offer Biblical instruction to public high school students, which is designed to promote Christ-centered thinking and living. Our coursework and staff members are rooted in a Christian worldview. The Bible is taught in an academic environment distinct from a typical church, youth group, or Bible study setting. Students from all walks of life are welcome to participate, regardless of their personally held belief systems. We desire for all students to feel confident in their ability to read, understand, and discuss the Bible for themselves in a way that is consistent with its authors’ intent.

Academic Excellence
We value an academic approach to our classes, providing a comprehensive view of Scripture to include the contexts of history, literature, geography, culture, language, and more. Our classes are taught by licensed teachers, and we submit academic criteria with rigorous curriculum to the local school district to meet Tennessee requirements for high school students to receive elective credit for Release Time classes. We maintain communication with cooperating schools to ensure that attendance and grades are reported fairly based on measurable academic objectives, rather than the course’s spiritual content.
Student Flourishing
We desire for all students to flourish in our classroom environment by being treated with love and respect no matter their background. We are continually searching for ways to support students in their spiritual, academic, relational, and emotional growth by equipping them with critical thinking skills and inspiring them toward personal development. We offer students the opportunity to embrace the gospel of Jesus Christ, and we pray that they would make that choice for their own lives.

Local Church Partnerships
We believe that local church communities are the ultimate and ongoing contexts in which students should pursue a Christian life. Released Time Bible Education programs cannot fulfill the entire work of making disciples of Jesus Christ. Because of this, we create partnerships with local churches, pastors, and student ministry leaders in order for students to engage with evangelism and discipleship opportunities beyond the capacities of our classroom. We invite Christian churches to be involved with our ministry by visiting or volunteering in the classroom, attending student events, or partnering with us in other outreach opportunities so that we can be united on mission for the sake of the gospel.
Christian Stewardship
We recognize our dependence on God for all we have and all we are able to do. We strive for God’s guidance to utilize His gifts of time, talents, and treasures for His purposes and glory. We are grateful to be in His service and wish to give our best efforts as an act of our worship. Because of the generous giving and efforts of many, we can collectively pursue the ministry of Released Time Bible Education.
